The SSY Australian Coal Port Congestion Index has climbed above 12 days once again, as vessel queues lengthen at coal load terminals on the east coast of the country. The International Grains Council has made further cuts to its grain export projections for Argentina in 2009/10 (July-June). IRON ORE STOCKPILES AT CHINESE PORTS 12-01-2009
Stockpiles of iron ore at China’s discharge ports have declined to 56.9 Mt, according to data from U-Metal. November shipments of steam coal from Australia were just short of the all-time high at 11.3 Mt, and were up 2.8 Mt on the same month last year, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. In December, global oil demand decreased by 2 mb/d to average 84.7 mb/d. For 2008 as a whole, demand was 85.57 mb/d, down by 270,000 b/d year-on-year, the first fall since 1983, reports Energy Intelligence. Iron ore exports from Australia in November fell to their lowest level since March 2007, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. US crude stocks surged 6.7m bbl last week to 325.4m bbl, 15% higher y-o-y as imports rose 1.2m b/d to almost 10.5m b/d, according to the latest data from the US Department of Energy.
