The first coking coal 2010 contract price has been reported settled in Japan. A Japanese steelmaker has agreed with an Australian miner to pay $200/t for coking coal for 2q10 (April-June). This represents a $71/t (+55%) increase compared with the benchmark price of $129/t for the 2009/10 financial year. Japan’s crude imports rose 7.6% y-o-y in January to average 4.08 mb/d, reversing the declining trend seen over the last few months, reports Energy Intelligence.
